Choices in the Heat of the Moment

2016 Fall Convocation Theme 'Inspiring Dialogue and Community' Events

OCTOBER 19, 2016
11:30 am - 1:00 pm

OCTOBER 25, 2016
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Student Community Center, Meeting Room D

This 90 minute workshop is designed to help participants consider the choices of how to respond to a comment, look, or action that triggers anger, hurt, or offense.  It can be very hard to realize our choices at such a moment because the powerful “fight or flight” response in the brain is triggered.  Participants will learn how to recognize this reaction, understand the range of options, and consider the consequences of those options.

Each workshop is limited to 25 participants to provide an opportunity for attendees to practice skills that help us make a choice on how we respond, not just react.
