“Understanding the Relationship between Lifecourse Lipids and Cognitive Function”
Lipids are vital to normal brain function and play an important role in the development of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. However, the relationship between lifecourse peripheral lipids and brain health is understudied. Further, there are well documented differences in peripheral lipid profiles across life epoch, race, and sex that may have implications for cognitive and brain health outcomes. Using longitudinal data from several California-based cohorts, we explore the relationship between peripheral lipids measured in early adulthood and midlife with late-life cognitive function and decline assessing differences by sex and race as well as mediation by midlife metabolic disorders.
