The Campus Community Book Project enters its 25th year with On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, Timothy Snyder’s guide to recognizing and resisting the forces that can erode democracy. The 2017 book will anchor this year’s campus conversations around civil liberties, with discussions and events continuing throughout the academic year and culminating in Snyder’s March 15, 2027, visit to the Mondavi Center.

The Campus Community Book Project is inviting nominations for books that fit its 2027–28 theme, “Futures and Technologies.” The selected book will anchor a year of activities exploring developments such as artificial intelligence and questions of ethics, accessibility and privacy, culminating in a visit by the author. Nominations are open through September 9.

After 33 years of dedicated service to University of California, Davis, Mikael Villalobos, Ed.D., associate vice chancellor for campus community relations, will begin his retirement on July 1, 2026.

UC Davis welcomed poet and author Javier Zamora to the Mondavi Center for an evening of reflection, storytelling and dialogue centered on his critically acclaimed memoir Solito: A Memoir, this year’s selection for the Campus Community Book Project.

UC Davis faculty experts are helping advance campuswide dialogue on global migration through the 2025–2026 Campus Community Book Project, which centers on Solito by Javier Zamora. As part of the initiative, scholars affiliated with the UC Davis Global Migration Center convened for a public panel that explored the social, economic, legal and human dimensions of migration, connecting academic research with the lived experiences reflected in the book.
