As we begin a new academic year, I find myself thinking about what it means to be part of a public university at this particular moment.
UC Davis is a remarkable community, one that stretches from our campuses in Davis and Sacramento to communities and partners across California. We come to this work with different experiences, perspectives and responsibilities. What connects us is a shared commitment to creating a university where people can learn, work, contribute and thrive.
Faculty, staff, and graduate student instructors are invited to apply for the new UC Dialogue Fellows Program from the University of California National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement. The fellowship provides $5,000 to support teaching practices that help students develop dialogue skills and engage across differences.

These awards honor individuals whose work advances the campus’s Principles of Community through exemplary service, meaningful mentorship, scholarship with broad community impact, outreach in partnership with local communities, and sustained efforts that promote inclusion, understanding and opportunity for all.
